How to Operate a Manual Pallet Jack Correctly to Enhance Safety?

According to OSHA pallet jack guidelines, anyone can use a manual pallet truck without receiving training. However, it is still important to pay attention to safe pallet truck handling, reduce pallet truck accidents, and avoid hazards.
  1. Pre-use Inspection

If the pallet truck has not been used for a long time, the hydraulic system may have sucked in air. To eliminate this, follow these steps:
    1. Pull the handle to the lower position and pump the handle up and down 4–6 times, then release the handle.
    2. If necessary, repeat this process until the truck operates normally.
  2. Operator Safety Gear

When warehouse pallet jack operates, the operator should wear work clothes, safety shoes, and gloves.
  1. Manual Pallet Truck Safety Guide

    1. When transporting with a truck, secure the pallet truck to prevent it from moving.
    2. When the pallet truck is not in use, set the brake handle to the middle position to keep the truck in a braked state.
    3. When using the truck on motor vehicles, it must move slowly to ensure safety.
    4. In an emergency, immediately set the brake handle to the brake position, stop the truck, and release the lowering handle to place the load on the ground.
    5. The pallet truck should not be parked on ramps, emergency exits, or in places that block traffic or interfere with work.
    6. When transporting goods on a ramp, the operator must operate the pallet truck carefully and always keep the operator above the ramp.
    7. The pallet truck should not make turns on a ramp.
    8. When parking the pallet truck, lower the forks to the lowest position.
    9. The operator is prohibited from sitting or standing in the truck while operating it and should not use the truck to transport personnel.
    10. When stacking goods, do not stack them too high to prevent the load from falling or the truck from tipping over.
    11. No other personnel should be in the operating area of the pallet truck to avoid accidents in case of sudden malfunctions during operation.
    12. Before using the pallet truck in an elevator, ensure the elevator can support the total weight of the truck, load, operator, and any passengers. The load should enter first, and no one else should be inside when the truck enters or exits.
